We are recruiting an Assistant Youth Director!

Assistant Youth Director for Group 64 Theatre for Young People and Putney Arts Theatre (Maternity Cover)

Group 64 is a busy, dynamic, exciting and inclusive Young People's Theatre Company, based in the heart of Putney. We believe in giving young people the opportunity to reach their creative potential in a safe and fun environment. We offer drama classes, musical theatre classes and holiday projects. We also create exciting, powerful and thought provoking theatre for and by young people.

Hours - Part Time (4 days per week) – Monday – Thursday

The hours will be adapted in the summer term to incorporate the directing of a production

Salary- £17,000 per annum

Contract – September 2015 – July 2016

You will need to be available for some flexible paid training and freelance hours between June and September 2015

The role is subject to a 2-month probation period and a full enhanced DBS check. 

Job Description

  • Co-teaching 7 drama classes per week with young people between the ages of 4 and 16

  • Assisting on one education project in a local primary school per term

  • Co-Teaching 6 Holiday Projects

  • 6 hours administration for Group 64 per week

  • 12 hours administration for Putney Arts Theatre per week

  • Director training on the Christmas Show

  • Director of the Summer Production with 30, 8-13 year olds.


 Person Specification

  • A confident workshop leader with experience of delivering a varied workshop programme for young people.    

  • Knowledge and understanding of young people’s theatre and arts education

  • Excellent administration and organisational skills

  • Ability to communicate confidently with people from a wide range of backgrounds and with varied abilities and their families.

  • A desire to learn, develop and to bring new ideas to our organisation.

  • A desire for a career in Arts Education and Young People’s Theatre  

  • An ability to be flexible .

  • This job is suitable for an ambitious Drama/Theatre graduate.

  • We are keen for someone who will create a long-term relationship with the company and due to the nature of the organisation this role will not be suitable for a jobbing actor.
